About PhilRights

Genuine empowerment of Filipino communities is built through continuous education grounded in research and validated by lived experience—by the people, for the people, and with the people.

PhilRights was established through a resolution passed during the 7th National Congress of the Philippine Alliance of Human Rights Advocates (PAHRA) and was formally constituted in 1991.

OUR VISION

PhilRights envisions a just, democratic, peaceful, and prosperous Philippines where human rights, gender equity, inclusivity, and non-discrimination shape the way we live, lead, and uplift one another.

Our work is focused on ushering in a society where each individual is able to fully realize their potential as a human person, to participate effectively in the economic, political, and cultural life, and to share equitably the benefits of economic progress.

OUR MISSION

In service to the Filipino people, our aim is to:

  • Deepen public understanding of human rights conditions, issues, and mechanisms

  • Strengthen a dynamic movement that mobilizes timely and effective human rights action

  • Monitor state compliance and engage institutions to uphold human rights obligations

  • Foster partnerships and knowledge exchange with local and international networks

  • Build capacity through education, advocacy, and strategic information sharing

  • Facilitate access to support for families and communities facing systemic rights violations

What we do

We produce reports on the human rights situation in communities and learning guides on the rights-based approach to development.

Our research tackles urgent, real-world issues to expose systemic injustices and inform action.

We continue to strengthen our monitoring and documentation efforts to drive accountability and ensure victims and their families have access to justice-seeking and rights-claiming mechanisms through a variety of support and interventions.

Our education and training programs aim to not just equip people with an understanding of human rights, but also to motivate action towards holistic formation and organization.
